Unstampabelles #8 - Recycle bonus technique Paper Bead

Morning everyone, it's time for a new challenge over at Unstampabelles.  You know that wonderful blog that likes to see all forms of paper craft/art without the use of stamps.

The month of January we had an Anything Goes challenge and saw so many talented crafters.....131 entries.  How terrific is that!!

Unstampabelles Challenge #8 - Recycle, Frugal receive a bonus entry if you can include a paper bead.

This is the wonderful prize on offer from Cardmaking Online.

Here is my Design Team project.

I started with a base box from a Christmas present - mobile phone.  I then made a lid out of card stock and adhered Magazine Reeds to the lid.  Tutorial here. Magazine Reeds are pages of a magazine rolled up.....bit like a large paper bead. The maroon flower is from a flower I have had in a vase for a couple of years and have pulled it apart.  The button is from my stash.
I should have taken a photo before I added the flower as my daughter was a little disappointed that you will not see the whole design.  The pattern is made up of four sections of 'v's which slowly get smaller and smaller.
To get these colours I selected all the pages with brown, black and red images.

Second view.

How I made the magazine reeds.....grab a magazine, tear out a page, trim the torn edge, cut in half length wise, place wood skewer on bottom right corner and start to roll, as you roll be sure to pull the skewer slightly out as you go, as you roll towards that top long edge glue along it with a glue stick.  Keep rolling and gluing, pulling out the skewer until you reach the end.  Make sure that the side with the colours you want to see are face down.

These are all my complete magazine reeds.

Tip, if you don't want a candy stripe reed be sure that there is no border along edge of the page that you want to show.  Note the white stripe.

All you need to create the magazine reeds.

The box before it was decorated.

Well have a wonderful day everyone and get creating with paper from around your house.

I would like to share this over at Make it Monday - #75 Always Anything Goes.
