Craftmad Quilt Block - Lovers Knot

Once again, I am taking part in the Craftmad Quilt Block Swap.  This year, each month we have a new partner and we are swapping a block in the partners chosen colours and the sewer chooses the block pattern.  I have asked for purples and whites and hope to put together a quilt for my daughter at the end of the year.

My partner for January asked for Burgundy, Pink and Cream.  These are the fabrics I had in my stash that I think fit the criteria.  I have gone with a Lovers Knot design and followed the tutorial over at Quilters Cache website.  Interestingly,  when my partner received this block she referred to it as a Double Wrench pattern when I googled I saw more images of it as a Double Wrench.  Now that I look at the photo here I am very happy with how neat this block has turned out.

Come on over to Craftmad as we are always looking for more members to join in our Quilt Block Swaps.

Edit: we are swapping 12" blocks.

Craftmad January Swap - Sticker Card

This is the second sticker card I created for our January Swap challenge over at Craftmad. I had decided to use some of my butterfly stickers as I knew the recipient loves butterflies.   I was then wondering where I would go with this card but thanks this post by Loz about her embroidery cards that gave me a starting point.   I then went through my stash and found this laser cut card front from Blue Edge Crafts.  I stitched the corner flower with colours that matched the butterfly stickers.  Finished with a birthday sticker that my daughter gave me for Christmas.

You can find other cards created for this challenge in the Craftmad Gallery here.

Bye for now.

January Craftmad Swap - Sticker Card

This month at Craftmad our challenge was to swap two cards using stickers.  This is the first card I made.  I have had these hat stickers (from Sticker Store) in my stash, I knew a day would come that I could use them.  I adhered them to some white card stock and coloured them with my Copic pens.  The bottom hat I added a couple of dots to team up with the background paper.  I then attached the hats with 3D foam tape.  Sentiment is computer generated.

You can see what other members of Craftmad came up with here in the Craftmad Gallery.

Thanks for dropping on by.

Craftmad January Christmas Sketch Challenge

I am really going to try and stick to doing these Christmas Sketch challenges over at Craftmad this year.  I managed to do four last year and it was so handy to dig out those cards before Christmas and send them on their way.

So this is the first sketch for the year and the card above is what I came up with.

In the photo it looks a little busy but in real life I like it more. :-)

I started with some silver card stock then the beautiful blue christmas ornament paper.  I found a couple of die cut shapes in my stash and put them to use.  To create the tag, I thought this would be a good opportunity to use up some of my Christmas rub-ons that I have had a few years now and down to the last few on a sheet.  I next wrapped it with this wonderful fluffy ribbon from my stash which does have a bit of sparkle in it but doesn't show in the photo.

So one Christmas card done and many more to go.

Golfers Card

This is a birthday card I made for my friends husband that....you guessed it.....loves golf.  The card that inspired me I found on Pinterest and made by Julia which I had to have go at.  So I started with a linen textured green card stock from Blue Edge Crafts.  Then three more shades of green which I cut into wavy shapes, next I used my scissors to cut all the pieces of grass.  The putter I hand cut from silver card stock using my sticker tape roll as a guide for the rounded ends.  Cut a circle of white and ran it through my Swiss Dots embossing folder.  I have attached the golf ball with the embossing facing down ....more like a golf ball.  The sentiment is computer generated.

Have a good one. :-)

Happy 19th Birthday Melissa

Happy Birthday to our wonderful daughter Melissa.

This year is going to be full of exciting new experiences for her and us, I am sure.  Melissa heads off to Uni in Brisbane at the end of February to start a Diploma of Graphic Design course.  Who knows where this will lead.  Yep, we (husband and I) will be empty nesters....but both of us a looking forward to travel this will lead to.

Melissa's requests for her card were purple and glitter.  Do you think I covered it?

So colours sorted I then decided to use the Craftmad January Sketch :-

The papers are from a Creativ pack that Melissa gave me for christmas the beautiful purple glitter card is from Blue Edge Crafts.  The Happy Birthday sentiment I used some glitter washi tape I picked up over Christmas and stuck it to a piece of card stock before using my die cut.  I also bought a sheet of bling which you can cut into any shape you'd like.  I didn't think it possible but the bling are a soft plastic and I was able to cut the circle out for the centre of the white paper flowers.

Thanks for stopping on by, have a great day.

Engagement Card

Hi everyone, a friend asked me to make an engagement card for her son and soon to be daughter-in-law.   This card on Etsy inspired my card.  The card is a little larger than my regular size to allow for all the family members to sign and write a little something inside.  I started with some white Bazzill Card stock then a layer of pearlised white paper, followed by this pretty rose coloured glitter card stock from Blue Edge Crafts.  The sentiment is computer generated, the little love birds are from Cardmadfairy collection of digital stamps and the flourish is an old faithful Stampin up stamp.  I coloured the birds with my Copics. :-)

Thanks for passing on by.

Heat Embossing and Die Cutting Question

Second day into the year and one birthday down. :-)  It was a good day and my husband enjoyed the indoor helicopter I bought him, the dog I don't think loved it so much.

I have a question to share from one of the ladies over in my Craftmad group.  Its concerning Heat Embossing which I just don't do but I am sure someone out there does and could help with an answer.
Thanks in advance.

"I know one of you will have an answer for, if I can only explain my problem.ive been trying to heat emboss images then die cut them, I get a beautiful crisp embossed image but when I put it through the big shot to die cut it I muck up the Image. I know I could be not lazy and do it by hand, but they make these sets for a reason lol. Card stock doesn't seem to mess up as bad as vellum, I totally lose the image on vellum. Looking forward to hearing from some clever people with answers"

I am thinking that the embossing on the image is flattened when it goes through the machine.

Thanks everyone for your help.  It has been interesting reading what you use and how you emboss and die cut.

Wishing you all a fantastic 2015 wherever it takes you.

On my to do list already:

Turn all my quilt blocks into quilts......which should be four quilts.
